SILK FLOWER-MAKING WORKSHOP (1 Day)
About This Workshop
Would you like to create your very own beautiful silk flowers which you could use to decorate a variety of accessories. From hats and bags, to pin brooches and corsages – in this beginners/improvers workshop, you will learn how to create eye-catching floral designs!
Patterns will be provided for you to both use and adapt to create beautiful flower shapes. During your workshop, you will complete two flowers, a classic Red Rose and pretty Pink Peony. Depending on your individual speed and skill level, you may have time at the end of the workshop to begin another flower shape from a selection of examples shown that you can complete at home, such as a delicate anemone. Course tutor Joanne Edwards will show you how to stiffen your fabric, and you will be using traditional egg iron tools to press your petals into beautiful handmade blooms.
***The final flower design you will create on our course may vary from the image displayed.
You’ll leave with:
- Flower patterns to continue your work at home
- A supplier list for your material needs after the course (such as where you can purchase tools)
- Samples of flowers made in various exquisite silks
A local shop and cafe/restaurant are just a few minutes walk away, however, please feel free to bring your own lunch. Refreshments will be provided and we will break for a 30 minute lunch at 1pm.
All materials are provided, please just bring a notebook/pen if you wish to make notes and a small box to take away your new flowers. A basic knowledge of sewing and patience are required for this workshop, as there’s lots of hand-sewing involved!
During the course you are welcome to take photos/videos of flowers/equipment to refer back to after the class. As you will leave equipped with finished samples and a supplier list, you’ll know where to find what you need to keep practising!
